Prior to Boston Logan International Airport becoming the first ever airport to
have artificial turf glued to its asphalt surfaces in 2007, AvTurf has been
conducting independent adhesive tests using ASTM standards for various types of
adhesives for asphalt and concrete and their compatibility with AvTurf's
artificial turf backing.
During these tests the adhesives were exposed to various types of airport
environmental climates; for example extreme heat, extreme cold, fire, fuel
spills, airport deicing fluids, and various aircraft fluids. To its credit, the
artificial turf or adhesives used by AvTurf have displayed no weakening in
their adhesion characteristics to either asphalt or concrete.
